even Suspects Arrested in Major Police Operation

A high-impact joint operation between SAPS Limpopo and North West has led to the arrest of seven suspected members of a violent crime syndicate believed to be behind a series of business robberies, armed attacks, and a recent fatal incident in Matlematlong.

The suspects, six men and one woman aged between 31 and 49, were apprehended during a coordinated intelligence-driven takedown carried out by a multidisciplinary team involving Northam Crime Intelligence, Rustenburg Tactical Response Team, Mogwase Crime Intelligence, Mogwase Visible Policing, and Northam Rural Safety.

The breakthrough followed a business robbery on 12 November 2025, during which a victim was fatally shot. Investigators swiftly linked a white Toyota Fortuner to the suspects, a group long associated with terrorising communities in Northam, Mogwase, and surrounding areas.

The vehicle was intercepted near a school in Northam, where the driver—confirmed as a syndicate member—was arrested. Subsequent questioning led officers to Rethabile Village in Amandelbult, where further arrests were made.

During extensive searches, police seized a cache of high-calibre weapons, including an AK47 rifle, two 9mm pistols with serial numbers removed (one confirmed to belong to SAPS), 36 magazines, and more than 180 rounds of ammunition. Officers also recovered stolen goods such as a television set, speakers, cigarettes, several mobile phones, clothing used during robberies, and multiple vehicle keys.

A Toyota Fortuner believed to have been used in numerous business robberies was confiscated, while a Toyota Tazz stolen in Mogwase was located abandoned at Smashblock sports ground with its number plates removed.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the officers for their exceptional work, saying the arrests mark a significant victory in the battle against organised crime and will help restore safety in affected communities.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
