Fire Destroys Dozens of Shacks in Hoedspruit Settlement

The South African Police Service in Limpopo has launched an investigation following a devastating fire that tore through the Plastic View informal settlement in Hoedspruit on Friday night, 7 November 2025, at around 8 pm.

According to police reports, emergency services were alerted to the blaze and responded swiftly. Upon arrival, officers found several shacks already engulfed in flames while members of the local Fire Brigade battled to contain the inferno.

Preliminary assessments indicate that approximately 40 shacks were completely destroyed, while 10 others narrowly escaped the flames. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage and forms part of an ongoing police investigation. Authorities have urged residents or anyone with information that could assist in determining the cause of the incident to come forward.
