Learner Transport Crackdown Intensifies

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has impounded 25 scholar transport vehicles during safety operations conducted in the Waterberg and Capricorn districts as part of its safer back-to-school campaign.

The first operation took place on 27 January 2026 in the Thabazimbi central business district, where 12 traffic officers focused on learner transport compliance. A total of 86 vehicles were stopped and inspected, including two buses, 75 taxis and seven sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

During the operation, 13 summonses were issued for various offences, including non-compliance with permit conditions and Professional Driving Permit (PRDP) violations. Ten vehicles were impounded on the spot, comprising two buses, five taxis and three SUVs.

In a separate operation in the Capricorn District, traffic officers continued their scholar transport enforcement at Seleteng Ramphele in the Mphahlele area. This resulted in the impounding of 15 additional vehicles, including four buses, four minibuses, two light delivery vehicles (bakkies) and five seven-seater vehicles.

The Department said the enforcement actions demonstrate its firm commitment to ensuring the safety of learners who rely on scholar transport daily. Authorities emphasised that unroadworthy vehicles and non-compliant operators place learners at serious risk.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has urged all scholar transport operators to regularise their operations, ensure vehicles are roadworthy and comply fully with permit and driver requirements, stressing that learner safety remains a top priority.
