Limpopo Sees Fewer Road Crashes This Festive Season

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, led by MEC Violet Mathye, has reported a drop in road accidents and fatalities during the recent festive season. Speaking at a provincial media briefing alongside Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, MEC Tshitereke Matibe, Executive Mayor Cllr Pule Shai, and Local Mayor Mme Malatjie, Mathye said the province recorded a 14% reduction in crashes and a 10% decline in fatalities.

The briefing also highlighted the department’s ongoing disaster response efforts. Severe weather recently caused significant damage to roads and forced the postponement of activities leading up to the Marula Festival. Despite these challenges, MEC Mathye reaffirmed the department’s commitment to safe and efficient transport systems across the province.

“As we continue to respond to disasters and promote road safety, we reiterate our commitment to serving the people of Limpopo,” said Mathye. The department stressed that it will continue working tirelessly to protect road users and ensure communities are safe.
