Police officers arrested in Lydenburg robbery
October 10, 2025The South African Police Service in Limpopo has launched a manhunt after a violent bus attack left two passengers dead and others traumatised along the N1 near Mokopane.
According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday night, 8 October 2025, at around 21:40, approximately eight kilometres before the Nylplaza Tollgate. A 42-year-old bus driver from Zimbabwe was transporting 54 passengers from Randfontein to Zimbabwe when the attack unfolded.
Reports indicate that two male passengers seated at the back of the Volvo 60-seater bus drew firearms and threatened those on board. A 30-year-old male passenger attempted to disarm one of the suspects while others tried to intervene. Shots were fired during the struggle, fatally wounding the male passenger and a woman believed to be around 25 years old.
The armed men then robbed passengers of cash and mobile phones before fleeing the scene. They were picked up by an unidentified vehicle that had been following the bus. The make, model, and registration number of the vehicle remain unknown.
Police have opened cases of murder and armed robbery.
