Three Trucks Catch Fire on N4, Causing Major Traffic Disruptions

Three trucks caught fire on the N4 between Hectorspruit and Marloth Park during the early hours of Friday, 25 September.

Emergency services received a call at approximately 02:55 reporting the incident. TriRescue responded to the scene and successfully extinguished the fires.

The eastbound carriageway is currently completely obstructed, with recovery operations still required to remove the affected trucks. Motorists should expect significant delays in the area, potentially lasting for much of the day.

The incident comes amid ongoing heavy truck congestion along the N4 towards the Lebombo Border Post. Earlier this week, traffic authorities were deployed along sections of the route to manage the backlog, while concerns were raised about some trucks and motorists entering oncoming traffic to bypass the queues.

The cause of Friday morning’s fire has not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities have not indicated whether the incident was caused by a collision, mechanical failure, a deliberate act or another factor.

Motorists travelling between Hectorspruit, Marloth Park and Komatipoort are urged to exercise extreme caution, allow extra travel time and follow instructions from emergency and traffic officials at the scene.

With three trucks destroyed and recovery operations still underway, motorists should prepare for another challenging day on this busy section of the N4.
