October 23, 2025Ward Councillor Mafia Fane has extended a helping hand to matric learners in Ward 11, Nkomazi, as they prepare for their final examinations. On Monday, 20 October 2025, the councillor donated three cows and 15 bags of maize meal to three secondary schools in KaHoyi Village – Sophungane, Ntiyi, and Zenzele.
The donation is meant to supplement meals during the matric school camps, which commenced on Monday and will run until 20 November, when the last paper is written. These camps are designed to provide learners with a focused environment to study and revise ahead of the crucial examinations.
During the handover, Cllr Fane urged school principals not to exclude learners whose parents cannot afford to pay camp fees. He emphasised that education should be accessible to all, regardless of family financial challenges.
“I have been reliably informed that a number of learners were excluded from attending the camps because their parents could not contribute financially. I humbly and respectfully request principals to bring all excluded learners back so that no child is left behind,” said Cllr Fane.
He noted that many families in Ward 11 are economically disadvantaged, and denying learners the opportunity to attend these camps would only deepen existing inequalities. “This small donation is meant to supplement the feeding plan so that it accommodates even those who come from indigent and destitute backgrounds,” he added.
Cllr Fane, who adopted the three schools after taking office in October 2022, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education in the ward. He concluded by wishing all matric learners in Nkomazi well as they begin their final examinations.
“The future of this municipality depends on you. We believe in your potential and are standing by you during this important journey,” he said.
