Mkhuhlu Residents Demand Suspension of Calcutta Police Station Commander

A 44-year-old Zimbabwean national has been arrested after police recovered a stolen vehicle during a joint anti-smuggling operation in the Makhado policing area near the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, 21 July 2026, involved the Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Investigation Unit and several security partners.
Police acted on information that a vehicle stolen in Gauteng was being driven towards Beitbridge to be smuggled out of the country. Officers spotted the vehicle on the N1 North, but the driver sped off, leading to a high-speed chase before the vehicle was brought to a stop.
The recovered vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport valued at about R600,000, was reported stolen in Krugersdorp on 17 July.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Makhado Magistrates’ Court on 22 July 2026 on charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and reckless and negligent driving. Police investigations are ongoing.
