Education Infrastructure Handover

Provision of infrastructure remains a key priority for the Department of Education, as MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya declared 2026 a year of transformation and development in the education sector.

The MEC described 2026 as a year focused on improving learning and teaching, strengthening e-learning, expanding early childhood development (ECD), accelerating infrastructure delivery and ensuring the holistic development of the education sector across the province.

As part of efforts to provide quality and innovative education for all, the department continues to hand over completed school infrastructure projects to communities.

On Tuesday, Nkoshilo Secondary School and Makgongoana Secondary School in the Capricorn South Education District were officially handed over to their respective school communities.

Speaking at the handover, MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya emphasised the importance of dignity, responsibility and community ownership of school infrastructure.

“Bringing back the dignity of an African child remains a departmental priority. However, we need the school community to take care of the infrastructure so we know that the future of our children is bright and secure. No to vandalism. To parents and guardians, let’s continue to take charge of our children’s education, as education is a pre-condition for development,” she said.

The handover forms part of the province’s broader programme to strengthen education infrastructure, improve learning environments and ensure that schools become safe, dignified and enabling spaces for learners and educators alike.
