Stepdaughter’s Killer Sentenced to 23 Years
October 16, 2025The community of Rolle celebrated a historic milestone on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, as Premier Mandla Ndlovu officially handed over the new state-of-the-art buildings at Godide Secondary School. The event marked a major infrastructure achievement by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, aimed at improving education and providing learners with modern resources.
The upgraded school now boasts new classrooms, a modern science laboratory, computer centre, library, kitchen, administration block, Grade R centre, hall, guard house, and reliable water and electrical infrastructure.
Premier Ndlovu praised the development, saying, “The Provincial Government is delivering infrastructure that matches the potential of our children, even in rural areas. Similar schools like this are found in Model C areas. We are happy that our children, in their own school, can now do proper experiments. We have asked them to take care of these buildings so that these buildings can take care of them.”
Godide Secondary School, established years ago, has a strong academic record: 90% pass rate in 2021, 88% in 2022, 63% in 2023, and 80.4% in 2024. With 598 learners enrolled this year, it remains one of Bushbuckridge’s largest schools.
Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena, Chairperson of the Mpumalanga House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders, welcomed the new facilities: “Other provinces may prioritise other things, but here in Mpumalanga we prioritise education. As traditional leaders, we support projects like this and will always honour such invitations.”
MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, commended the community for fighting for meaningful development. “You have fought for this because you want to secure the future of your children. Today we celebrate victory. But if there is ever discontent, do not destroy this school. It is worth R55 million — destroying it would destroy your children’s future.”
Learners expressed their pride in the upgraded school. The SRC President said, “We thank our parents and the community for not giving up. Because they fought, today we walk into new buildings that look like those we see in cities.”
A Grade 11 learner added, “I cannot wait to use the new computer lab. It makes me feel like my dreams are valid.”
With its new infrastructure, Godide Secondary School is poised to offer learners modern facilities, better learning opportunities, and hope for a brighter future.
