Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed that he will step down from his role after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing an end to a remarkable five-year tenure that has transformed the South African men’s national team.
The 74-year-old Belgian announced that his decision is final following South Africa’s historic World Cup campaign, during which Bafana Bafana reached the knockout stages for the first time in the country’s history. Despite speculation that he could extend his contract, Broos said he will not continue as head coach beyond the tournament.
While his time on the sidelines is coming to an end, Broos indicated that he remains open to contributing to South African football in another capacity.
