South African National Parks is using this year’s Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 to celebrate 100 years of the Kruger National Park while promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism.
The tourism showcase, taking place in Durban from 11 to 15 May, is themed “Our Heritage, Our Future”. The campaign reflects on a century of conservation achievements and the future of tourism and community development linked to protected areas.
SANParks CEO Hapiloe Sello said the centenary was a moment to honour conservation successes while recognising painful histories of land dispossession and exclusion.
She said the organisation was now focused on building inclusive conservation models that benefit both nature and surrounding communities.
As part of the programme, SANParks will host its annual Conversations About Conservation dialogue, bringing together tourism leaders, conservation experts and the media to discuss how tourism can support conservation, create jobs and drive economic growth.
The organisation is also showcasing 16 small businesses from communities near national parks. These enterprises operate in sectors including accommodation, tour guiding, crafts, cultural tourism and hospitality.
According to SANParks, the initiative forms part of its Vision 2040 plan aimed at creating a more inclusive conservation economy, with opportunities for women, young people and community-owned businesses.
The exhibition stand at the travel indaba also highlights the diversity of tourism experiences available across SANParks’ 21 national parks.
