Limpopo Sees Sharp Drop in Unemployment Rate

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has welcomed the province’s significant drop in unemployment, which now stands at 29.8%—a major improvement from 35% in the second quarter of 2025.

According to Statistics South Africa’s Labour Force Survey released on 11 November 2025, Limpopo recorded the largest decline in unemployment among all provinces, marking a 5.2% improvement and highlighting the province’s economic resilience. Nationally, unemployment dropped by 1.2%, bringing the overall figure to 31.9%.

“The 29.8% is not yet ideal, but it is a step towards our goal of reducing unemployment below 20% as outlined in the Limpopo Development Plan,” said Premier Dr Ramathuba. She attributed the improvement to growing investments and industrialisation efforts within the province, noting that R170 billion in investment pledges from the Limpopo Investment Conference reflect strong confidence in the province’s economy.

Dr Ramathuba also pointed to major infrastructure developments—such as the construction of 21 new roads and collaborations with SANRAL and mining companies—as key job creation drivers.

She reaffirmed that the 7th Administration remains committed to building “a Limpopo that works for all,” focusing on job creation, poverty reduction, and improved living standards across the province.
