Scotts Maphuma Faces Backlash Over Fan Interactions

Amapiano artist Scotts Maphuma, born Mpho Lebajoa, is currently facing significant public criticism due to his recent interactions with fans. The controversy began when Maphuma expressed frustration over constant fan requests for photos, stating, “I can’t even go to the mall without being asked for a picture”.

This sentiment was perceived by many as dismissive, leading to widespread backlash. Videos of Maphuma’s performances at events like Cotton Fest and Coyotes Lounge in Mbombela showed audiences reacting with apparent disinterest, further fueling criticism.

In response, Maphuma issued a public apology during an Instagram Live session with DJ Maphorisa, saying, “Those who are angry with me, I’m sorry. It’s a misunderstanding”. He also posted on Facebook, acknowledging his shortcomings and expressing a commitment to personal growth.

Despite these apologies, some fans remain unconvinced. The Vogue Lounge 014 in Rustenburg canceled his scheduled performance due to public demand, stating, “We’ve made the call, with your voices in mind”
