Limpopo police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a brutal farm attack that claimed the life of 77-year-old farmer, Attie Mahne, near Baltimore in the Tolwe policing area on Saturday, 29 November 2025.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the swift breakthrough, praising the coordinated efforts of the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, Tolwe Detectives, Bosbeld Misdaad Ondersoeke and Bosveld Plaasbeveiliging Security Company. The suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday, 2 December 2025.
According to police reports, the attack occurred at around 4pm when the victim stepped out to inspect his cattle. During his absence, two unknown men allegedly entered the farmhouse and held his wife at knifepoint, tying her up.
When Mahne returned home, he was confronted by the intruders, tied up and severely assaulted. The attackers fled with several stolen items, including a firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victim’s wife managed to free herself and alert the farm watch. Police and neighbouring farmers responded immediately. Upon arrival, they found Mahne still bound and unconscious. Emergency Medical Services declared him dead at the scene.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Senwabarwana Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 3 December 2025. Police have confirmed that the search for the second suspect is ongoing.
Lieutenant General Hadebe reaffirmed the commitment of the Limpopo SAPS to ensuring justice for the victim and restoring safety within farming communities.
