A 17-year-old boy has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for the rape of a nine-year-old girl in the Waterval area of Limpopo.
The Waterval Regional Court delivered the judgment on 29 September 2025, following an incident that took place in September 2023. The court heard that the victim, who was sent by her mother to buy bread at a local spaza shop, was attacked on her way home by the then 15-year-old accused. He lured her to a nearby house where the crime occurred.
The case was reported to the police, leading to the swift arrest of the accused. Warrant Officer Lufuno Mercy Mutheiwana from the Makhado Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit was assigned to investigate.
The accused is now serving his sentence at a compulsory Child and Youth Centre in Soshanguve, where he is also incarcerated for four other similar offences committed in Gauteng in 2024.
