August 17, 2026Cameroon have been crowned champions of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a convincing 3-0 victory over Malawi in the final.
The Indomitable Lionesses produced a dominant performance to secure their first-ever WAFCON title, with Marie Ngah leading the charge with a brace.
Ngah found the back of the net twice to put Cameroon firmly in control before Naomi Ndjoah Eto added a third goal to seal a memorable victory.
The result marked a historic moment for Cameroonian women’s football, as the team finally claimed the continental crown after years of competing among Africa’s best.
Malawi, who had impressed throughout the tournament and reached the final after defeating Algeria 3-1 in the semi-final, were unable to match Cameroon’s intensity in the decisive match.
Cameroon had earlier booked their place in the final after a tense semi-final against hosts Morocco. The match ended goalless, with Cameroon eventually prevailing 3-1 on penalties.
The tournament also saw South Africa’s Banyana Banyana exit in the quarter-finals after a 2-1 defeat to Morocco.
Cameroon’s triumph caps a remarkable WAFCON campaign and establishes the Indomitable Lionesses as the new champions of African women’s football.
The victory will also provide a major boost to the development and growth of women’s football in Cameroon, with the players now celebrating one of the biggest achievements in the country’s football history.
