September 3, 2025Novak Djokovic has booked a place in the US Open semi-finals where he will meet Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in what promises to be one of the tournament’s standout clashes. Djokovic, who is chasing a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title, overcame American Taylor Fritz 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in a demanding quarter-final on the Arthur Ashe Stadium court.
Although Fritz showed determination, he failed to make the most of key break point chances, allowing Djokovic to take control at crucial moments. The 38-year-old Serbian displayed his trademark composure to seal victory after more than three hours of play.
Alcaraz, by contrast, advanced in convincing style, defeating Czech 20th seed Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. The 22-year-old Spaniard has yet to drop a set in this year’s tournament and continues an impressive run that has seen him win 35 of his last 36 matches.
In the women’s draw, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka progressed without stepping on court after her opponent Marketa Vondrousova withdrew through injury. Sabalenka will face American Jessica Pegula in the semi-final, setting up a repeat of last year’s final. Pegula advanced after defeating Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets.
