Foreign Suspects Caught After Vehicle Chase

Two foreign nationals have been arrested near Amersfoort after police recovered a Toyota Fortuner believed to have been stolen in Pinetown last month. The arrests followed swift action by officers from Amersfoort Police Station, who responded to information shared through the Rural Safety Partnership.

According to authorities, officers spotted the vehicle on the N11, where it was already being followed by local farmers. When the suspects noticed they had been cornered, they abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Police, supported by the farmers, pursued and caught both men.

The pair, aged 43 and 45, have been charged with possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the Immigration Act. They are expected to appear in the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 5 December.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the cooperation between police and the farming community, noting that such partnerships continue to strengthen crime-fighting efforts across the province.
