The Limpopo Provincial Corporate Communication and Liaison unit, supported by Mankweng SAPS, hosted a 16 Days of Activism campaign against violence towards women and children at Paledi Mall on Tuesday, 2 December 2025. The event also aligned with the ongoing Festive Season safety campaign currently under way across the province.
Led by Provincial Commander for Media Relations, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the outreach drew strong participation from Section Head: Media Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Steven Thakeng; Section Head: Marketing and Protocol Services, Lieutenant Colonel Rufus Magoro; Captain Mohlaka Mashiane; Captain Jacky Mashapu; SAPS Provincial and Mankweng communication teams; and members of the local community.
During the engagement, Colonel Ledwaba appealed to men to respect women and to refrain from any form of criminal behaviour. He urged residents to remain vigilant during the festive period, emphasising the importance of strong partnerships between police and the community in reducing crime. Community members were also encouraged to use anonymous reporting channels to share information that could assist in crime prevention.
Lieutenant Colonel Thakeng shared practical safety tips with shoppers and residents at the mall, reminding them to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling, to avoid offering lifts to strangers, and to remain alert at all times—particularly while shopping or using ATMs. He further advised households to strengthen home security through proper lighting and burglar-proofing, and stressed the importance of immediately reporting suspicious persons or vehicles to the police.
SAPS officials reiterated that they cannot achieve crime-reduction goals alone and depend on active community co-operation. Crime-reporting contact numbers were distributed to encourage residents to play a role in safeguarding their neighbourhoods.
The event highlighted the crucial role of community involvement in protecting women and children and building a safer Mankweng. A SAPS brass band entertained attendees, while crime-prevention pamphlets were handed out throughout the mall.
