Fourth Suspect Arrested in Insurance Murder Case
November 4, 2025Police in Sekgosese, under the Mopani District, have arrested two family members in connection with the death of their 30-year-old relative, who was allegedly poisoned at Lemondokop Village on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspects — a 38-year-old man and his 82-year-old mother — were arrested following a detailed investigation into the man’s sudden death. Reports indicate that the deceased had complained of severe stomach pains and dizziness before losing consciousness. He was pronounced dead inside an ambulance while being transported to hospital.
Initially, police opened an inquest case after community members raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the death. Detectives later uncovered evidence suggesting the deceased had been poisoned, allegedly by his uncle and grandmother.
Both suspects were traced and taken into custody. The inquest docket has since been changed to a murder case, and a post-mortem will confirm the exact cause of death. The pair are expected to appear before the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, facing charges of murder.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, condemned the incident, describing it as “deeply disturbing”.
“It is heart-breaking to witness such acts of violence committed within families. We commend our detectives for their swift and meticulous work that led to the arrest of the suspects, and we appreciate the community for promptly reporting the matter instead of resorting to violence,” he said.
Police investigations are ongoing.
