Allegations of Tribal Bias Stir Tensions in Bushbuckridge
October 2, 2025Amandelbult residents were left shaken after the Thabazimbi Regional Court handed down a 30-year sentence to 32-year-old Alfred Donaldson for the murder of his father, alongside a concurrent five-year sentence for kidnapping.
The incident took place on 26 July 2023 at the family’s home in Visarend Street, Amandelbult, within the Northam policing area. According to evidence presented in court, Donaldson locked his stepmother in a room and threatened to kill his father, who was resting after a night shift. She managed to escape, only to find her husband lying on the bed with multiple stab wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.
It later emerged that the victim’s Mitsubishi Triton bakkie and cellphone had also been stolen. Investigations swiftly led to the tracing and arrest of the accused in Koster. The case was meticulously investigated by Sergeant Thabiso Aubrey Seshoka of Northam Crime Investigation Services.
The court found Donaldson guilty of murder and kidnapping, sentencing him to 30 years and five years respectively, with the terms running concurrently. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the outcome and commended the investigating officer for his dedication. She stated that the conviction should serve as a strong deterrent to those who commit violent crimes.
