Man Sentenced for Father’s Murder and Kidnapping

The Limpopo Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the sentencing of a 28-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of a 101-year-old woman. The accused, Mahlangu Johannes Abram, also received an additional three-year sentence for housebreaking.
The crime took place at Sehlakoana village, Zaiplaas, on the evening of Friday, 26 July 2024. The elderly victim had gone to bed with her home securely locked. In the early hours of the following morning, Abram broke into the house, restrained the victim, and raped her before fleeing through a window.
The victim managed to alert her nephew, who pursued the suspect. With the diligent efforts of Warrant Officer Victoria Phala of Groblersdal’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, the accused was swiftly identified, arrested, and positively linked to the crime through DNA analysis.
Abram was found guilty of rape under Section 3 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 32 of 2007.
Lieutenant General Hadebe praised the investigating officer and all those who ensured justice was served, stressing that crimes against the elderly will continue to be treated with the utmost seriousness.
