February 10, 2025Mitchell House proudly hosted its academic prize-giving ceremony on January 27 in the school theatre, recognizing the hard work and dedication of the Grade 8 to 11 learners from the fourth term of the previous year.
The event brought together parents, guardians, family, friends, learners, and teachers to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the award recipients.
Claude Goeminne, the deputy head of academics, warmly welcomed guests and set the tone for the prestigious event. Charmaine Mathibela, the deputy head of pastoral and discipline, then took the stage to individually present the awards to the learners.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Chaeli Award to Dineo Murima, an accolade representing the Chaeli Campaign that promotes inclusivity and advocacy for children with disabilities.
Thandolwethu Khumalo and Matshela Vyamgungu were honoured with full academic colours for college for their exceptional academic performance, having achieved an average of over 80% in two exams and one test cycle during the year. Meanwhile, the highest academic honour, academic honours for college, was awarded to Mabetji Mankga and Taskeen Tayob, who excelled with averages over 85%.
Further accolades were given in various categories, such as academic half colours for Grades 10 and 11, academic progress (Enrichment Centre and Grades 8–11), and subject prizes (Grades 8, 10, and 11). As the ceremony drew to a close, Goeminne praised the achievers, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence: “A big well done to all the achievers. Keep up your hard work and continue being role models for the junior phase.”
