Two men, aged 35 and 41, have been arrested in Witbank (eMalahleni) for possession of suspected stolen diesel.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday night after members of the Nkangala Anti-Hijacking Task Team, Middelburg Flying Squad and K9 Unit stopped a speeding Mahindra bakkie that had skipped a red traffic light.
A search uncovered 48 containers holding about 1 200 litres of diesel, worth an estimated R30 000. The suspects could not explain the origin of the fuel or produce valid documentation.
The two men, who identified themselves as Zimbabwean nationals, were arrested and taken to Witbank SAPS. The vehicle, valued at about R80 000, was also seized.
The suspects are expected to appear in the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court, while investigations continue.
